Indoor/Outdoor fun all in one place
The Little Red Schoolhouse offers an interesting and free respite from the relentless summer heat.
Our girls are starting to go a little batty with this wacky weather. Too many days this year it has been too hot to be outside for long.
It's crazy that I'm trying to find indoor activities in the summer, but that's how this summer is going. One of my new favorites is the Little Red Schoolhouse. If you haven't been there you probably don't realize how much there is to do at the new learning center.
Don't worry, the Little Red Schoolhouse is still there. The new building is an added attraction to an already wonderful nature center. The new building has a space devoted to child's play.

There are crafts, puppets, books and other things to keep children busy. For older kids, the new exhibits are interactive and interesting. Our girls love the turtle display in the lower level. They like that they can see through the glass wall and watch the turtles and other animals.
Even with the heat, we always take a walk through the forest preserve. There is a fairly short path around the nature center that is just enough to take us through several different areas. We also like going by the bee hives to see what is going on there. Of course everything is free.

There is also air conditioning and bathrooms, which are both important when your kids are overheated and have emptied their water bottles. For more information, visit http://fpdcc.com/nature-centers/little-red-schoolhouse-nature-center/
