Pools to Keep You Out of the Summer Sun

Sometimes it's really too hot to swim outside. There are two local alternatives to outdoor pools that offer a full-day of family fun.

We're big fans of the Palos Heights Public Pool. We typically spend a lot of time there with our girls' friends so they can swim and play. This summer, though, with its relentless, dangerous heat has sent us in search of indoor pools. It took a bit of work, but we did find two in the area. The Bolingbrook Park District has an indoor/outdoor water park called Pelican Harbor. It has everything you'd expect in an indoor/outdoor water park from slides to a lazy river to a sand play area. The Oak Brook Park District has a lovely pool with a slide, zero depth pool and whirlpool. There are also lap lanes for those who swim to exercise. You can pay by the day or month. There is also a summer membership. I feel a bit disloyal even suggesting visits to these water parks because we are such fans of the Palos Heights Public Pool. The reality is we cannot spend much time at an outdoor pool when it's 100+ and sunny. These two pools offer nice alternatives to an outdoor pool for days when it's too hot or too cold to swim outside.
