Put The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe in Your Halloween Schedule

The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe is a great way to celebrate Halloween with its mix of wonderful and creepy performances.

I sat through The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe last night thinking it was such a creepy play -- and that's a compliment. The play was dark intense, scary and complete fun at the same time.

First Folio Theatre, a wonderful theater company in Oak Brook, performs at the Mayslake Peabody Estate. The glorious old mansion is as much a part of the production as the actors.

The play mixes the Poe's writings with the love story of Poe and his wife Virginia. At times I wasn't sure if we were in Poe's writings or in the love story as the two intertwine beautifully.

There were so many times I thought it was the perfect Halloween activity for grown-ups and older teens. For one scene we were all in a dark room with creepy noises playing in the background. If I were prone to nightmares that scene alone would have kept me awake all night. It was great.

The Mayslake Peabody Estate is easy to find in Oak Brook. It took us about 20 minutes from door-to-door, and that included one wrong turn. Parking is free and plentiful.

If you're looking for a fun, adventurous evening out, take advantage of The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe. This is a great show for those who like a little scare in their theater.

Disclaimer:  I did receive media passes to attend the show. This did not change my opinion about how good and scary it was from start to finish.
