Two fun places to see Santa this Christmas season
It's time to start thinking about where to see Santa this year. Here are two fun places to make it a family event.
I know there are a lot of wonderful places to see Santa from park district events to shopping malls. If you're looking for something a bit different this year, here are two fun options.
A Christmas Carol is a holiday family tradition. Whether you watch it on TV or see it live, it's always fun. This year, the wonderful Drury Lane Theatre offers live performances from November 23 through December 22. Conveniently located in Oak Brook, the Drury Lane Theatre has breakfast or dinner packages with a festive buffet-style menu and a visit from Santa Claus.
Breakfast with Santa is offered on Saturday, November 24, and December 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 11:30 a.m., with the performance at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. The Breakfast Buffet package price for adults is $25.00 and $22.00 for children 12 and under. A special Dinner Buffet with Santa is available on Wednesday, December 19 at 5:30 p.m., with the performance at 7:30 p.m. The Dinner Buffet package price for adults is $35.00 and $27.00 for children 12 and under.If you haven't taken your children to a Drury Lane show, you really should.
The shows are always first-class from the performers to the ushers. The theatre is small enough that everyone has a really good seat, yet large enough for the full professional stage performance experience. My other favorite place to see Santa is at Governor's State University. The Salt Creek Ballet performs the Nutcracker on December 8 at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. We've attended the later show in the past to enjoy the festive pre-show party in the lobby. There are crafts, sing-alongs with holiday carolers and, of course, pictures with Santa.
One of the things I like about this Nutcracker is the local flavor of it. Nearly 75 local dancers perform with the professionals. Two years ago we knew several dancers, which made it even more fun for our girls.
