Carl Sandburg Music Boosters Host First Annual Jazz Fest

The Carl Sandburg Music Boosters are pleased to invite the community to attend their inaugural Jazz Fest to be held on February 19 at the Orland Park Civic Center, located at 14750 Ravinia Avenue in Orland Park.

“We’re very excited to host the Jazz Dinner Dance to showcase the talent of our students’ and their love for the jazz genre,” said Don Vacha, President of Carl Sandburg Music Boosters.

Jazz tunes of new and old will fill the column-flanked Grand Hall as headliners from Carl Sandburg and Jerling Junior High entertain friends, family and community members during the fun-filled evening of live music, food and dance.

As Louis Armstrong once said, “If you have to ask what jazz is, you’ll never know.” The Carl Sandburg music students welcome everyone to attend and find out!

The dinner menu includes three types of salads, Sicilian chicken, sausage and peppers, baked mostaccioli and dinner rolls from local favorite, Papa Joe’s Restaurant. Mocktails along with a plentiful dessert table will be available as well. Gourmet cupcakes made by 2004 Sandburg graduate, Sandburg band alumni and star baker, Jen Dybinski, will grace the dessert tables.

Those hoping for a chance to go home with something other than a full belly and a further love of jazz are encouraged to purchase raffle tickets at the event. Some of the featured prizes include a one-week stay at a Marco Island, Florida condo, four lower box seat tickets and a parking pass to a 2016 White Sox game and four tickets to a Chicago Cubs game.

The family-friendly event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with musical entertainment at 7 p.m. and the dinner buffet at 7:30 p.m. The Carl Sandburg Music Boosters hope the community takes advantage of this great opportunity to support local, student musicians while further enriching their musical experience.

A donation of $35 per person guarantees entry to one of the local music community’s most anticipated events. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis, are limited and are going fast.
