Cash, Jewelry Stolen From Palos Hills Home In Ruse Burglary

Palos Hills police said the man distracted the older couple by taking them to inspect leaky water pipe in the back yard.

PALOS HILLS, IL — Cash and jewelry were stolen from a Palos Hills couple’s home in the 7800 block of 100th Street when they were distracted by another man posing as a construction worker who lured them to the back backyard, reports said.

Around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 10, the couple, in their 70s, told police that someone rang their front door. They were greeted by a man wearing a yellow construction vest. The man told them he needed to check a water pipe leak in the back yard.

As the man lead the couple to the back yard, police said he was talking on a 2-way radio with an accomplice who was apparently inside the house. After the man left, the couple discovered that their drawers had been rummaged through. The burglars got away with $2,000 cash and approximately $4,000 worth of jewelry.
