Chicago Man Accused of Sucker Punching Moraine Valley Student

A Chicago man broke a student's jaw by sucker punching him inside college building for talking trash about woman friend, prosecutor said.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- A Chicago man is accused of sucker punching a student at Moraine Valley Community College, whom he believed had made disparaging remarks about a mutual woman friend. Edgar Grande, 19, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. The student he allegedly hit suffered a broken jaw.

According to the charges, around 2 p.m. Nov. 27, Grande was giving a woman friend a ride to Moraine Valley Community College when she told him about an ex-boyfriend, whom she claimed was talking trash about her. Grande gave his keys to the woman and told her wait in the car, the prosecutor said. The woman tried to talk Grande out of going into the building.

When Grande found the student, the prosecutor said he socked him twice in the face. After the alleged sucker punching, Grande got into his car and drove away. The student was taken to Palos Community Hospital, where he was treated for a broken jaw that was fractured in two places and had to be wired shut. The cold cocking was caught on surveillance video. Grande was taken into custody by campus police, the prosecutor said.
