Creeps Try To Lure Child To Car At Palos Hills School Bus Stop

Vigilance urged at school bus stops after creeps try to lure Palos East student to car with offers of candy and iPhone.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- The Palos School Dist. 118 superintendent is urging parents and neighbors to pay extra attention to school bus stops after two men tried to lure a Palos East student into a car on Aug. 25. The fifth-grader had just exited the bus during afternoon dismissal at the corner of Moraine Drive and Cour D’Alene in Palos Hills, the superintendent said.

The two men were driving a red Ford Mustang and tried to coax to the student into their car with offers of candy and an iPhone after she got off the bus. The student was unharmed. She apparently did not report the incident to school administrators until Monday morning, Supt. Dr. Anthony M. Scarsella said in a notice to parents on the district's website. The notice to parents did not offer a description of the occupants of the vehicle.

"Now that school has started, I am asking parents to remember to be vigilant at bus stops and immediately report any suspicious activity to local police. Please remember to talk with your children to reinforce important safety tips regarding strangers. All Palos 118 bus drivers are aware of the incident that occurred on Friday and will be keeping a close eye on students at bus stops. Student safety remains our top priority and I thank you in advance for working with us to ensure students remain safe traveling to and from school.”
