Sold out crowds escaped the snow and sleet on January 24 and 25 at Stagg High School as they enjoyed Palos South’s production of Disney’s “Frozen Jr.”
Headlining the cast and crew of over 60 students were Claire Connors (Elsa), Bella Narciso (Anna), Layth Awadallah (Kristoff), Tiggy Sliwinski (Sven), Sarah Faustino (Olaf), and Nicholas Keough (Hans). Songs included the popular “Let It Go,” and “For the First Time in Forever.”
The 2013 Disney blockbuster computer animated film was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen.” The story features a brave Princess Anna who sets off on an epic journey to find her estranged sister Elsa, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped their kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter. Anna is joined by a rugged mountain man Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, and Olaf the snowman.

Stephanie Hill directed a student cast and crew of over 100, with Lori Swan as assistant director, musical and lighting direction by Bill Hansen, and art direction by Randy Buvala; all teachers at Palos South. School counselor Joe Dinolfo also assisted with the production and student choreography and direction. “We had a tremendous outpouring of parent support and volunteers,” said Hill, adding, “The amount of dedication devoted to the production by each and every student was set at a high and rigorous level.”
Production began in September with auditions, and by January the cast and crew were working three and four days a week, sometimes as late as 7 p.m. bringing the musical to life. All proceeds from the musical benefit Palos South’s Drama Club, as well as purchasing rights to next year’s production.
