Cyclones plan to be in the mix in 2013

With a deeper squad lined up this season, the Cyclones anticipate more success in 2013 with some strong recruits and experienced returners.

All-Conference golfer Jack Misheck (Lincoln-Way North) returns with his raw power. After a solid first year with the Cyclones, he is expected to be a leader for this year’s crew. Pat Neylon (Shepard) played every match last year and stepped up his game for this season. Nathan LaPorte (Timothy Academy) is the last of the returnees and has worked hard on the links to improve and fight for a chance to be in the top five.

Joining Moraine Valley are solid recruits Joe Knight (Sandburg), who if he stays steady all year could be an All-Region player; John Randolph (Sandburg), who has length off the tee and should average in the 70s; Marist grad John Yerkes; Jeff Cizek (Sandburg); Avery Peterson (Plainfield North); Austin Temple (Stagg); and Zac Traina (Lockport).

Although the Cyclones will miss the talents of Jeremy Fraser—only one of two Cyclones to qualify for the national tournament twice—who moved on to Lewis University, the team will average better than last year.

“We have a stronger and deeper team, and I look forward to the season with cautious optimism,” said coach Bob Freudenthal. “We’ll miss having Fraser on the team, but we have some experienced players, and we’ll be competitive. We’ll be in the mix this year.”
