Students from all three District 230 schools participated in a Mock Interview event held at Carl Sandburg. Stagg students from Sandy Kuypers’ Career Planning class, along with her and Jim Duffy’s Career Internship classes traveled to Sandburg to listen to several guest speakers as well as take part in mock interviews with business people from the surrounding area.
Speakers presented information to the students about how to handle rejection in the job market, how to market yourself, and how to dress for success. During the interview segment, each student had a chance to interview three different times, spending five to ten minutes to impress each interviewer. Students all received an evaluation form from each of their interviewers to point out their strengths and weaknesses. Students shared their feelings about the event when back in the classroom and all felt the day was very helpful to them to prepare them for their futures.
Students reported that theyfeel better prepared to face the interview process and some even made some personal connections to help with networking.
