DNA Links Palos Heights Man To Burglary: Cops
Cops say Palos Heights man left his DNA on a bottle of Seagrams at burglary scene.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- A Palos Heights man who apparently had a swig of Seagrams was arrested after his DNA tied him to a residential burglary, police said. Matthew R. Brooks, 26, appeared over the weekend for a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building on a charge of residential burglary. Brooks is currently out on bond.
According to the charges, on May 13, a resident in the 12200 block of Natchez Avenue reported that someone had entered his garage and stole a custom set of golf clubs. Palos Heights police collected physical evidence, including a bottle of Seagrams left at the scene. DNA evidence was sent to the Northeast Regional Crime Laboratory, which returned identifying the alleged burglar as Brooks.
Palos Heights arrested Brooks, of the 12300 block of South Austin Ave., on Aug. 31. He appeared the next day for a bond hearing, where bail was set at $25,000. Brooks’ next court date is Sept. 19.
