Dog Owner Lunges, Shoves and Punches 3 Cops: Report

Palos Hills police said woman got upset when officers took her dog to a shelter because it was running loose in apartment building's hall.

PALOS HILLS, IL — Palos Hills officers went to an apartment building around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in the 8500 block of 103rd Terrace, for a report of a large dog running loose in the hallway. The dog’s owner, Debra Jones, 49, became upset when police took her dog to an animal shelter and attacked them, reports said.

Neighbors complained to police that Jones’ large dog is constantly in the hallway. When officers arrived, police said that Jones had possession of the dog, but let it back unleashed into the hallway. Residents were scared to enter or leave their apartments, according to the report.

Officers took the dog to Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge for safe keeping. Jones became angry and allegedly lunged at the three officers, pushing, shoving and hitting them. She was charged with three counts of battery to a police officer. She’s due back in court Feb. 26 in Bridgeview.
