DUIs, Retail Theft, Reckless Driving and Fleeing Police: Blotter

Palos Heights police reports, Feb. 18–March 1.

SUNDAY, MARCH 1

DUI

Shardai N. Kinsey, 29, of the 5800 block of South Talman Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit and improper lane use after a March 1 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Police pulled over Kinsey at about 2:35 a.m., in the 7600 block of West 127th Street, for crossing over the solid yellow line, the report stated. The officer determined Kinsey was under the influence of alcohol at the scene and took her into custody, the report added. At the station, Kinsey took a breath test, which registered a blood-alcohol content more than 0.08, according to the report.

She was held on $1,000 bond, and her court date is March 19.

SATURDAY, FEB. 28

DUI

Luke J. Helsel, 22, of the 12000 block of South 73rd Avenue, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit and speeding after a Feb. 28 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Police clocked Helsel going 55 mph in a 35-mph zone at about 2:29 a.m., in the 12900 block of South Harlem Avenue, the report stated. Helsel exhibited signs of being under the influence of alcohol at the scene, and when he took a breath test at the station, it registered a blood-alcohol content level more than 0.08, the report added.

Helsel was held on $3,000 bond, and his court date is April 2.

THURSDAY, FEB. 26

Possession of Controlled Substance, DUI

Brian D. Carey, 27, of the 8900 block of West 170th Street, Orland Hills, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, improper lane use and improper turn after a Feb. 26 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Police pulled over Carey for driving with tinted windows and crossing over the white dash lines at about 1:15 a.m., in the 12100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, the report stated. During the stop, officers noticed in plain view on the vehicle’s center console a clear plastic bag containing two large chunks of a white chalky substance that later field tested positive for cocaine, the report added.

Carey was then taken in to custody after failing field sobriety tests and the scene, the report stated. At the station, he refused any chemical testing, the report added.

Carey was held over for a bond hearing, and his next court date is March 19.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 25

Reckless Driving, Fleeing Police

Ryan W. O’Hare, 21, of the 12200 block of South 75th Ave., was arrested and charged Feb. 25 with reckless driving and obstructing a peace officer in connection with fleeing from police Feb. 18 after being pulled over for going about 70 mph over the speed limit, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Police clocked O’Hare going 91 mph in a 20-mph zone at about 12:49 a.m., while traveling northbound on 73rd Ave., from 127th Street, the report stated. O’Hare pulled in to his driveway and then fled on foot from police, the report added.

About a week later, police stopped O’Hare while he was driving the same vehicle, and he was arrested for the Feb. 18 incident, the report stated.

O’Hare was held on $1,500 bond, and his court date is April 2.

TUESDAY, FEB. 24

DUI

Thomas W. O’Brien, 52, of Avondale, Ariz., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit and aggravated speeding, according to Palos Heights police reports.

O’Brien was clocked going 81 mph in a 50-mph zone at about 1:34 a.m., in the 6500 block of West 135th Street, the report stated. Police took O’Brien into custody after he showed signs of being under the influence, and at the station, he took a breath test, which registered a blood-alcohol content of more than 0.08, the report added.

O’Brien was held on $3,000 bond, and his court date is March 19.

SUNDAY, FEB. 22

Misdemeanor Retail Theft

George J. Neff, 54, of the 4800 block of South Lavergne Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor retail theft after being accused of stealing vodka and candy from a drugstore, according to Palos Heights police reports.

An employee reported seeing Neff take four bottles of vodka and two boxes of Fannie Mae candy off the shelves at Walgreens, 12659 S. Ridgeland Ave., and leave the store without paying for them, the report stated.

Neff was held on $1,500 bond, and his court date is April 2.


DUI

Peter Meneghini, 44, of the 12300 block of South Natchez Avenue, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving without insurance and improper lane use after a one-car accident Feb. 22, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Meneghini had driven off the road in the 6700 block of East Navajo Drive, and crashed into the bushes of a residence, the report stated. At the scene, Meneghini failed field sobriety tests, but he refused chemical tests at the station, the report added.

Meneghini was held on $1,500 bond, and his court date is April 2.


SATURDAY, FEB. 21

DUI

Jacqueline S. Triplett, 51, of Peoria, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, speeding and improper lane use after a Feb. 21 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Police noticed Triplett weaving in her lane at about 1:52 a.m., in the 11900 block of South Harlem Avenue, and clocked her going 51 mph in a 35-mph zone, the report stated. During the stop, police determined Triplett had been drinking, and she failed field sobriety tests at the scene, the report added.

While in custody, Triplett refused any chemical testing, the report stated.

Triplett was held on $3,000 bond, and her court date is March 19.

DUI

Elvia Gutierrez, 41, of the 14000 block of Char Lane, Crestwood, was arrrested and charged with driving under the influence, aggravated speeding and improper lane use after a Feb. 21 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Gutierrez was seen crossing over the solid yellow line at about 3:49 a.m., in the 13100 block of Harlem Avenue, and police clocked her going 62 mph in a 35-mph zone, the report stated. At the scene, Gutierrez failed field sobriety tests, the report added.

She was held on $3,000 bond, and her court date is April 2.

DUI

Danny A. Davis, 39, of Hammond, Ind., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit, speeding and failure to signal after a Feb. 21 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Davis was clocked at about 8:16 p.m., going 55 mph in a 35-mph zone in the 7600 block of West 127th Street, the report stated. During the stop, Davis failed field sobriety tests, and at the station, he took a breath test, which registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.110 the report added.

Davis was held on $3,000 bond, and his court date April 2.

THURSDAY, FEB. 19

DUI

Rick D. Rybarski, 53, of the 3900 block of West 116th Place, Alsip, was arrested and driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit and improper lane use after a Feb. 19 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Rybarski was pulled over at about 1:18 a.m., in the 6400 block of West Rt. 83, after police noticed him crossing over the double yellow lines, the report stated. During the stop, police found that Rybarski had been driving under the influence, and once in custody, Rybarski took a breath test that registered a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit of 0.08, the report added.

Rybarski was held on $1,000 bond, and his court date is March 19.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 18

DUI

Dustin M. Marcukaitis, 25, of the 29700 block of South Egyptian Trail, Peotone, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit, speeding and improper lane use after a Feb. 18 traffic stop, according to Palos Heights police reports.

Police clocked Marcukaitis going 77 mph in a 50-mph zone at around 2:16 a.m., in the 13500 block of South Harlem Avenue, the report stated. Marcukaitis also was seen weaving in and out of his traffic lane, the report added.

During the stop, the officer suspected Marcukaitis had been drinking, and the driver failed field sobriety tests at the scene, the report stated. At the station, Marcukaitis took a breath test that registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.108, the report added.

Marcukaitis was held on $3,000 bond, and his court date is March 19.
