Eisenhower announces Top 10 graduates

Heading to Brown, St. Mary's of Notre Dame, Illinois . . .

Eisenhower High School in Blue Island proudly announces that the students listed below compiled the 10 highest grade point averages for the class of 2016.

Each has earned Honors with Distinction, the highest academic recognition category, for compiling a grade point average exceeding 4.0 and qualified for National Honor Society.

Luis Alvarez – Luis, who served as vice president of Spanish Club, qualified for national honor society for Spanish language students. He will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Stephanie Esparza – Treasurer for National Honor Society and a two-sport athlete, Stephanie will attend Bradley University to study health science.

Giovanni Garcia – President of National Honor Society who competed with Mathletes and Scholastic Bowl, Giovanni intends to study physics or computer science. He’s not yet decided on his college.

Grecia Guapillo – President of Science Club and president of National Honor Society for French language students, Grecia will attend St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame to study international business and finance.

Akire Hawkins – The 2016 IHSA state speech champion in Impromptu Speaking, president during both her senior and junior years, and captain of speech team, Akire will study linguistics at Brown University.

Alec Miroballi – Alec, who served as co-editor of the student newspaper and vice president of Science Club, completed four years of perfect attendance at Eisenhower. He intends to study mathematics at Loyola University Chicago.

Itzel Romano – A member of Leo Club, Art Club and Spanish Club who played soccer and tennis, Itzel plans to attend Moraine Valley Community College before transferring to a four-year college and enter a pre-medicine program.

Helena Smith – Drum major for the award-winning Cardinal Regiment and a star of speech team and drama productions, Helena plans to study theater at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Andrea Terraza – President of Spanish Club, an AP tutor, and a member of Hispanic National Honor Society, Andrea will pursue majors in both accounting and finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Robyn Walowski – Captain of the volleyball team for three years and an Advanced Placement tutor, Robyn will study nursing at Illinois State University.
