Fidencio Martinez Exhibition "Legalities of Being"

The Robert F. DeCaprio Gallery presents Fidencio Martinez's "Legalities of Being" exhibition.

The Robert F. DeCaprio Gallery presents local artist Fidencio Martinez's solo exhibition "Legalities of Being" in the main gallery space, and "Double Valance" in the Fine and Performing Arts Center Atrium. The opening reception will be held August 26 from 2:30-4 with an artist talk at 3 pm. His exhibition will run August 15- September 20, 2016.

Fidencio Martinez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, but raised in North Carolina after his family migrated. His current work examines immigration, the drug war, and socioeconomic issues affecting Mexico. Martinez manipulates paper, surfaces and maps to refer to the crafts and customs taught to him as a toddler in Oaxaca – ones used to celebrate festivals and mourn the dead. For Martinez, these techniques are a way to reconnect with a time and place no longer present.

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
