Fireworks Enforcement Continues This Weekend In Palos Heights
Palos Heights police will continue to monitor illegal fireworks activity this weekend.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- The Fourth of July may be over, but police will still be monitoring illegal fireworks activity this weekend. Rain dampened most backyard pyrotechnics and Palos Heights PD want residents to think twice, as a courtesy to their neighbors, before they blow off their leftover stash this weekend.
Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski, of the Palos Heights Police Department, reminds residents to pay attention to the electric sign boards warning about the illegal fireworks enforcement.
“We confiscated some [fireworks] but not a significant amount. The rain hampered the fireworks,” Czajkowski said. “We received several calls and the people agreed to stop. We had no injuries of fires.”
Extra patrols are being added to monitor illegal fireworks activity. Residents are asked to provide as much information as possible when calling police. An exact address is helpful.

Illinois' Pyrotechnic Use Act prohibits the sale, possession and use of almost all consumer fireworks. While fireworks continue to be an integral part of Illinoisans' Independence Day celebrations, violation of the state's ban is a class A misdemeanor, carrying a fine of up to $2,500 and up to a year in jail time.
"The resident just needs to call 911 if they suspect illegal firework activity and the officers will respond," Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski said.
