Free Senior Scam Seminar Taught At Palos Park Police Department

PALOS PARK, IL —Palos Park Police Officer Diana Campbell will give a talk on the ins and outs of cons and scams from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. The presentation teaches older adults how not to fall victim to ruse burglaries, grandparent scams and financial con games.

Officer Campbell is a key member of the Illinois State Police Ruse Burglary Task Force. She will offer strategies useful in dealing with ruse burglaries, as the perpetrators travel from community to community.

In 2016, Officer Campbell and her fellow task members were awarded the Illinois State Crime Commission "Excellence in Law Enforcement Award." She has worked a number of ruse burglary cases in Palos Park, focusing and learning the intricate ways of these career criminals and their racketeering and corrupt organizations.

“The sad truth is that senior citizens can be an easy target, because they are vulnerable, they are honest,” Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller said. “Older adults are established and they are financially stable.”

Officer Campbell’s presentation will be held at Palos Park police station, 8999 W. 123rd St. Adult children and caregivers of older adults are also encouraged to attend.
