In a classic nursery rhyme, “Three Little Kittens” lost their mittens and didn’t know where to find them. Mrs. Plucinski’s second grade class at Palos West Elementary School certainly found more than three to keep little hands warm this winter.

Plucinski’s class spearheaded the annual school-wide drive at West that ran in December, collecting new pairs of new gloves and mittens for an elementary school in Lockport and Joliet, and other local charities. Plucinski was thrilled with the outcome of the Three Little Kittens Mitten Drive for its 30th anniversary. Their efforts set a new school record totaling 1,400.

“In the past, the most we ever collected was about 700 and that was years ago,” said Plucinski. “To almost double that is a true picture of how big hearts are here at Palos West.”
