Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery present's Heather Macali's Transformed at Moraine Valley Community College. A contemporary fiber artist from Ferndale, MI, Macali's exhibition is designed to respond to the overwhelming amount of negativity in contemporary society and media, Transformed creates a space of positivity for self-reflection and as a space to reconnect with oneself. Inspired by the 1980’s cartoon Transformers, contemporary fiber artist Macali taps into the purity of childhood and the excitement of discovery, unrestrained creativity, and imagination. She pulls from these imprinted memories and emotions during her practice, and her jacquard weavings emphasize how color and pattern initiate physical and emotional response from the human senses. In addition, the use of lines within the patterns move the viewer through the space and form an instinctive visual continuum and connection between the works. Transformed plays on wonderment in hopes to allow the viewer to feel like part of the exhibition and comfortable enough to use the space to release tension and stress from everyday life and leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and energized.

Fine & Performing Arts Center Exhibition: Sandy Newell's Animal Kingdom
Sandy Newell exhibits her watercolors in the Fine & Performing Arts Center Atrium. Newell's watercolors are textured from what began as an experiment in her studio as she pours paint over materials such as bubble wrap. This texture becomes a signature in her work as she depicts both the animals figures but also their souls.
