SUNDAY, JULY 19

Criminal Damage to Property

Alaeddin Alasmar, 32, of Palos Hills, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property after mistakenly knocking in an apartment door he thought was his, according to Palos Hills police reports.

Police responded to a call of a residential burglary at about 7 p.m. July 19 in the 9900 block of 84th Terrace, the report stated. The residents returned home that day to find their front door opened and damaged but nothing missing inside, the report added.

Police canvassed the area, and their investigation led to Alasmar, the report stated. Alasmar told police he thought the apartment was his and that he had locked his keys inside, the report added. That’s why he forcibly opened the door with his shoulder, according to the report.

Alasmar’s court date is Aug. 27.

SATURDAY, JULY 18

Theft of Lost Property

Kristen Holden, 25, of Palos Hills, was arrested and charged with theft of lost property after pawning an iPad she found, according to Palos Hills police reports.

A Palos Hills woman contacted police July 17 about a possible identity theft after she lost her iPad and began receiving emails of password changes, the report stated. She also received an email from Verizon notifying that a phone had been purchased in her name, and she was notified that someone tried to open a credit card account using her maiden name, the report added.

Detectives found Holden on July 18 and discovered she had pawned the iPad at a pawn shop, the report stated.

Holden’s court date is Aug. 27.

Retail Theft

A male juvenile was arrested and charged with retail theft and curfew violation after being accused of stealing beer from a store, according to Palos Hills police reports.

Employees at Shell Gas Station, 10300 S. Harlem Ave., called police about a boy walking into the store at about 11:30 p.m. July 18, taking a beer and running out, the report stated.

Police found the boy riding his bicycle near Harlem Avenue, near 10000 South, the report stated. The boy also had the beer from the store in his possession, the report added.

The boy was charged and turned over to his parents, the report stated. He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court.

THURSDAY, JULY 16

Mother, Teacher Confrontation

Police investigated a dispute between a mother and a teacher at SandBox Learning Center, 7845 W. 103rd St., according to Palos Hills police reports.

Witnesses claim the mother of a student walked into the school at about 10 a.m. July 16, and accused a teacher of kicking her son, the report stated. The mother then threatened the school as she left, the report added.

Police spoke with the mother and the teacher before turning over the case to a juvenile officer, the report stated. The juvenile officer investigated and found no basis for the mother’s claim, the report added.
