Man Whose DNA Tied Him To Stolen Mercedes-Benz Arrested: Police

A Chicago man whose DNA left on a cigarette tied him to stolen Mercedes-Benz was picked up on an arrest warrant, police said.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — A Chicago man tied to the theft of a Mercedes-Benz last summer was picked up on an arrest warrant after a months-long investigation, Palos Heights police said. Tristen Arnold, 22, was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle.

The Mercedes-Benz was taken from a driveway in the 12600 block of 74th Avenue in the early morning hours of Aug. 1, 2019. The car was found the same day it was stolen in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. Police said DNA analysis on a cigarette found in the car’s ashtray came back as match for Arnold.

Bail was set at $30,000. Arnold is due back in court next month in Bridgeview.
