Menu for Arts Extravaganza reflects rich, diverse beauty of D218

Menu features five different ethnic groups!

Aside from the remarkable display of choral, instrumental, drama, speech and visual arts talent, the Arts Extravaganza at Richards High School on Saturday includes an amazing menu.

In consultation with former chefs and current culinary arts teachers, students selected and will help prepare the menu. Arts Extravaganza, organized by the District 218 Foundation to raise money for college scholarships and teacher grants, will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at Richards, 10601 S. Central Avenue in Oak Lawn.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and includes this remarkable food:

African-American - Black eyed pea stew with honey butter fried chicken (Brian Collier - Junior); Banana pudding with
Snickers parfaits (Raynee Lacy - Senior);

Middle Eastern - Chicken Shawarma and hummus puffs with Kalamata olive sauce (Ahmed Beiran - Sophmore); Sweet walnut pistachio rice stuffed grape leaves (Ameen Razzeq - Senior);

Asian - Steamed buns with fiery peanut sauce and cucumber salad (Paul Barnes- Senior); Wasabi ice cream with
ginger cookies (Paul Barnes - Senior).
