Moraine Valley Manufacturing Students Eligible For Free Tuition
The Calumet Area Industrial Commission is using an $8.9m grant to pay the tuitions for manufacturing students at 10 community colleges.
PALOS HILLS, IL — Calumet Area Industrial Commission, a Southland-based workforce development organization, is using an $8.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to assist with tuition for manufacturing students at Moraine Valley Community College.
The America’s Promise Grant will provide financial assistance for tuition, fees, books, and school supplies for a number of manufacturing-related programs at MVCC, including programs training electronics technicians, industrial controls technicians, mechanical designers, pipe welders, and more.
CAIC is working with 10 area partners, including Daley and Olive Harvey Colleges, and South Suburban, Prairie State, Oakton, and Triton community colleges, according to a news release. All told, the grant will provide free training in high-skilled manufacturing careers to 1100 people in the Chicago area.

"As more people embrace industry and trades as viable paths to wealth and security, we want to be there to guide them on their way into those careers. Our work is accelerated through generous grants like this one from the US Department of Labor," said Ted Stalnos, President.
CAIC is a 501c3 that aims to promote manufacturing jobs in metropolitan Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
