MVCC Offers Career-Advancing Retail Management Certificate

Moraine Valley is offering a career-advancing certificate in retail management

PALOS HILLS, IL -- Moraine Valley Community College is introducing a new program to help business owners and managers build an exemplary management team. The college's Retail Management Certificate program provides opportunities for business owners and managers to attract and retain skilled workers prepared to take on leadership roles in a fast-changing industry.

Retail positions can be in the areas of clothing shops, supermarkets, department stores, specialty stores and many more. The industry certificate is being offered in conjunction with the Western Association of Food Chains and a Brighter Futures grant through the League for Innovation in the Community College. Tuition assistance is available to those who currently work in retail.

"We're excited to be able to offer this program," said Steve Pappageorge, executive director of the Moraine Valley's Corporate, Community and Continuing Education subdivision. "A key element is that it has been designed by people in retail for people in retail."
The program is designed for people currently working in retail who wish to advance in their careers.

"It's no longer just people walking into a brick and mortar grocery store,” Pappageorge said. “It's online retail. It's banking, pharmacies, automotive dealerships, restaurants—any business with a consumer presence.”

This industry-recognized certificate, awarded through WAFC, can be completed in as little as one year. In addition, the courses required for this program can be applied to an associate of applied science degree, including:
