Palos Area Service Clubs Step Up To Aid Ukrainian Relief

PALOS, IL — Service clubs in the Palos area are stepping up to aid in Ukrainian relief efforts. From now through March 15, residents can drop off donations at the Palos Hills Recreation Center, 8455 W. 103rd St.

All donations will be delivered to Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Palos Park, where parishioners have local contacts in Poland and Ukraine, that will get donations directly to those aiding Ukrainian refugees.

The Kiwanis, Lions and Sertoma service clubs of Palos Heights, along with 17th District Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison’s office, are coordinating the drive.

Palos Hills Ald. Mike LeBarre (3rd Ward) said the lion’s share is going to Poland, which has taken in 1.4 million Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war zone.

“Just getting this stuff is such an undertaking,” LeBarre said, a member of Kiwanis. “To get all of this aid to the people, it’s going to be very ambitious.”

Residents can also make financial donations, payable to Sts. Peter and Paul UOC, 8410 131st St. Palos Park, IL 60464. Indicate “Ukraine” in the memo section.

• Iodine antiseptic (any form)
• Quick clot (temporary traumatic wound treatment)
• Compressed gauze
• Sterile gauze
• Hemostatic Kombat gauze
• Hemostatic swabs and patches
• Soft gauze
• Tamponate gauze
• Membrane solution straw water filters
• Curve needles
• Decompression needles
• Durapore silk tape (rolls)
• Non-woven adhesive tape
