Palos Community Hospital Ranks among State's Finest

U.S. News and World Report ranks the nation and state's finest.

The top hospitals in Illinois include Chicago’s major medical centers as well as suburban hospitals in Oak Lawn, Naperville, Evanston, Barrington, Park Ridge and McHenry, according to annual rankings issued Tuesday by U.S. News and World Report. Palos Community Hospital also landed among the state’s best.

Illinois has about 220 hospitals. Nine are nationally ranked and 21 others meet national high performing standards. U.S. News and World Report sifted through data for nearly 5,000 hospitals and results from surveys of more than 140,000 physicians to rank the best centers in 16 adult specialties from cancer to urology, according to the publication. Death rates, patient safety and hospital reputation were a few of factors considered. Only 137 hospitals were nationally ranked in a specialty. Northwestern Memorial Hospital placed 11th nationally on the U.S. News and World Report honor roll.

19. Palos Community Hospital is a general medical and surgical hospital in Palos Heights, IL, with 377 beds. Survey data for the latest year available shows that 47,415 patients visited the hospital’s emergency room. The hospital had a total of 17,960 admissions. Its physicians performed 3,761 inpatient and 4,520 outpatient surgeries.
