Palos Hills Man Backhands Hospital Public Safety Officers: Police

"Nothing good happens at 3 a.m.," judge says.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- A Palos Hills man gave public safety officers a hard time while seeking treatment at a hospital, prosecutors said. Edward Garrett, 46, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.

North Palos Fire Protection District transported Garrett to Palos Community Hospital around 3 a.m. May 22, While in the ER Garrett refused to follow the nurse’s instructions, prosecutors said. The nurse asked for the public safety officers’ help in restraining Garrett, when he allegedly backhanded the hospital cops.

The prosecutor said Garrett had a prior felony for aggravated battery that was reduced to a misdemeanor. The assistant public defender told the judge that Garrett works as a bus driver.

“Nothing good happens at 3 a.m.,” Felice said. “What I find remarkable is that he wasn’t flagged for violence.

Bail was set at $10,000. Garrett is due back in court June 12 in Bridgeview.
