Palos Hills Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Man Accused of Luring Children With Candy

An 18-year-old Chicago man is charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct after he tried to lure kids with candy, cops said.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- An 18-year-old accused of offering candy to a Palos East fifth-grader as she exited a school bus last week has been taken into police custody after an extensive neighborhood canvas, Palos Hills police said in a news release. Journey Davis, of Chicago, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct. He has already bonded out of the Palos Hills jail.

Palos Hills cops learned of a man in a red car offering kids candy as they got off the bus after school on Aug. 25 near the corner of Moraine Drive and Cour D’Alene. Through many interviews, neighborhood canvasses, increased patrols and an extensive investigation, police said they identified the driver and passenger of the vehicle. Police did not learn of the incident until a student reported it to school officials on Monday.

Davis was arrested on Wednesday. His next court date is Sept. 29 in Bridgeview. Police would not comment on whether the second man in the vehicle had been arrested.
