Palos Hills Residents Tricked Into Sending $10K To Fake Apple Support

The residents called a number they thought was Apple support and were instructed to send $10,000 through a Bitcoin ATM to fix their MacBook.

PALOS HILLS, IL — Some Palos Hills residents lost thousands of dollars in a bitcoin scam thinking they were sending it to Apple support, police said.

Officers responded to a deceptive practice call in the 9900 block of 81st Avenue on Saturday. The residents said they were having issues with their MacBook and contacted what they thought was Apple support at a number with an Oklahoma City area code.

The residents were instructed to wire $10,000 through a Bitcoin ATM. After the money was sent, additional funds were requested, reports said.
