Palos Park Police Watch Roads, Offer Rides Black Wednesday Eve

Palos Park PD will add extra marked and unmarked cars to watch the roads Thanksgiving weekend and offer rides home on Black Wednesday Eve.

PALOS PARK, IL — Beginning midnight Wednesday, Nov. 21 and running through the late evening hours of Saturday, Nov. 25, Palos Park police will be adding patrol units as needed throughout the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Officers will be focusing on aggressive drivers, unsafe drivers and drunk drivers. With one of the busiest travel periods ahead, officers will be working to reverse this trend by focusing on impaired and unrestrained driving, two of the main causes behind the rise in fatalities.

“Driving impaired, not wearing a seatbelt and speeding are always concerns around this time of year,” said Palos Park PoliceCommissioner Dan Polk “That’s why we are increasing patrols and encouraging those traveling to buckle up, drive sober and slow down. It’s better to be
late and reach your destination safely, then not at all.”

Thanksgiving Eve has also emerged as one of the biggest nights for drinking, second only to New Year’s Eve, as people go out for a night of partying with friends, before disbanding to spend Thanksgiving with the family.
