Parolee Charged With Unlawful Possession of Loaded Gun

Cops said loaded handgun was under front passenger seat of car parolee was riding in, prosecutors said.

A parolee riding in a car was arrested after police found a loaded handgun under the front passenger seat, prosecutors said in bond court Tuesday.

Tatiana Edwards, 28, appeared before Cook County Associate Judge John Hynes on a charge of possession of a weapon by a felon.

According to the charges, police initiated a traffic stop in the 5000 block of 147th Street, Alisp, on Sept. 14.

Prosecutors said that police K9s picked up the scent of cannabis. Officers also found a loaded handgun beneath the front passenger seat where Edwards was sitting.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Edwards was the mother of three young children.

“There is no indication that she owns the vehicle,” the assistant public defender said.

Edwards is currently out on a parole for aggravated identify theft, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

Judge Hynes put a parole hold on Edwards. Bail was set at $75,000.

Edwards’ next court date is Oct. 6 in Bridgeview.
