Run With Raider Nation In St. Alexander School's 5K Run And Walk

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- Run with Raider Nation in St. Alexander School’s annual 5K run/walk on Thursday, May 10. The 5K course winds through the beautiful streets of Palos Heights. The USTAF-certified race will begin at 6 p.m. for runners and 6:05 p.m. for walkers. A free 100-yard Kids Dash will also be offered beginning at 5:40 p.m. Kids ages 6 and under are encouraged to come out and run for fun.

Race entry of $28 includes a performance fit t-shirt. Runners and walkers are encouraged to register by April 26 to receive a t-shirt in their preferred size. Registration after that date does not guarantee a t-shirt in a preferred size. Day-of registration is available for $30. The race will begin at 6 p.m. for runners and 6:05 p.m. for walkers. A free 100-yard Kids Dash will also be offered beginning at 5:40 p.m. Kids ages 6 and under are encouraged to come out and run for fun.

The Raider Nation 5k Run/Walk will start and finish at the St. Alexander parking lot, 126th and 70th Avenue (just east of Harlem). Prizes will be awarded for top 3 male and top 3 female finishers. Post race activities include free face painting as well as music from DJ “Big Cat” Tom Englehart. Diane’s Place will cook up delicious hamburgers and hot dogs for all post-race participants for a nominal fee.

Through generous efforts of many local businesses and families, more than $80,000 has been raised in the last four years for the St. Alexander School Technology Department. Specifically, the money raised went towards updating and improving the applied tech lab to transform it into a STEM Lab, as well as providing wireless technology throughout the school.

“Our annual 5k Run/Walk is a terrific community event and I encourage everyone to support it. By participating, you can help provide our students with up-to-date technology,” Principal Cathy Biel said. “Funds raised this year will go towards purchasing new iMacs computers for the school computer lab.”

Participants can register online OR pay by cash or check, made payable to St. Alexander School. Registration forms can be downloaded from the website and mailed to St. Alexander School at 126th S. Harlem, Palos Heights, IL 60463. Sponsorships are also being accepted at any monetary level. A donation of $500 or more will guarantee a business logo to be imprinted on the t-shirt as well as be in all race communications.

St. Alexander School is one of only a few schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago to offer students a cutting-edge applied technology lab that provides a variety of modules exploring different subjects and topics including science, math and critical thinking. The school is currently accepting registration for the 2018-2019 academic year.
