LA GRANGE, IL — Democrat and La Grange resident Marie Newman recently announced that her campaign for Illinois' 3rd District has raised more than $195,000, according to a release from the campaign. The campaign said over 90 percent of the money contributed was from donors in Illinois.

Newman has declared that she is running against incumbent Rep. Dan Lipinski. According to a release from her campaign, Newman has a background in nonprofit advocacy, marketing and small business.

“With over 1,600 donors and a median donation of only five dollars, the residents of the third district have a clear message: it’s time for a change,” spokeswoman Anastasia Scourtes said in a release. “Marie Newman is the strongest competition Lipinski has ever faced. As the campaign gains steam, these resources will be vital in powering the grassroots movement around Marie, which is laser focused on working families and health care for all."
