Dist. 218 Offers Free Self-Defense Class

One Light Self Defense is offering a free self-defense class Dist. 218's administrative building on Sept. 24.

Community High School District 218 and One Light Self-Defense -- specialists who have taught in physical education courses at Richards, Shepard and Eisenhower high schools -- will offer a free 3-hour workshop based on a release and run philosophy.

The workshop will happen on Tuesday, September 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the District 218 Administrative Center, 10701 S. Kilpatrick Avenue, Oak Lawn. People can register via the QR code on the the flyer attached to this article or by calling Curriculum Director Audra VanRaden at 708.424.2000 ext. 2411.

We only have room for 80 participants, so first come/first served.

Participants will learn proactive safety awareness, avoidance tactics, striking techniques and targets, self-defense misconceptions, and defensive techniques against grabs and chokes.

There's no fee, but those who participate may choose to donate to our friends at One Light for their time, effort, and expertise.
