Robbery Suspect Shot By Civilian With Concealed-Gun Permit: Cops

A store clerk and his brother chased the suspect into Bridgeview after he tried robbing a Justice convenience store, police said.

BRIDGEVIEW, IL — A man police say robbed a store Tuesday evening was shot in the back by a civilian with a concealed-carry permit, police said. According to police, the man had just held up a business in Justice, Illinois, before fleeing to nearby Bridgeview where he was shot. The wounded man was able to walk to an ambulance and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he is in good condition, according to a police news release.

Around 6:15 p.m., police said the man walked into a convenience store near 82nd Street and south Roberts Road in Justice and tried to rob the place before he was apparently recognized by a store employee. Police said they believe the same man robbed the same business last Friday.

According to Bridgeview police, the employee called his brother to let him know the store was being robbed. The employee's brother happened to be driving by the store at the time, according to police, and both brothers chased the man from Justice into Bridgeview and got into a brief fight.

The employee's brother, who had a valid concealed-carry permit, shot the man accused of robbing the store in the back, police said.

Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha said weapons were recovered from both men. Bridgeview is handling the shooting, while Justice police are investigating the two robberies.

The suspect's name is not being released and charges are pending.

Justice police could not immediately be reached for comment.
