Shepard announces Top 10 graduates

Heading to US Naval Academy, Purdue, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado . . .

Shepard High School in Palos Heights proudly announces that the students listed below graduated with the 10 highest grade point averages for the class of 2016.

Each has merited Honors with Distinction, the highest classification possible, for earning a GPA above 4.0 (possible due to weighted grades for Honors and Advanced Placement courses.)

All 10 also qualified for National Honor Society and received Illinois State Scholar honors this year. The top 10 graduates include:

Natalie Bruce – A member of Scholastic Bowl and a varsity tennis player, Natalie will study biomedical engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Sara Campione – A Mathlete who ran cross country and track, Sara will study biology at the University of Colorado.

Abigail Graham – A Mathlete who qualified for National Honor Society for Spanish language students, Abigail will study nursing at Purdue University.

Caroline Graham – Captain of the volleyball team and ranked fifth all-time in Illinois history in assists, Caroline won a Golden Apple Scholar award. She will study Spanish education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Michael Graham – A member of Biodiesel Club who qualified for National Honor Society for Spanish language students, Michael will study mechanical engineering at the United States Naval Academy.

Hannah Horstmann – Vice President of National Honor Society, captain of the swim team, and a member of student council, Hannah will study nursing at St. Xavier University.

Aleck Poradowski – Captain of Scholastic Bowl and a member of the 100/10K Guinness world record team, Aleck will study bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Hayden Wiest – President of National Honor Society and captain of the swim team, Hayden will study finance and economics at Indiana University.

John Wolniak – A Mathlete and three-sport athlete, John will study biomedical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Jacob Zuiker – Part of the team that established a new 100/10K Guinness world record last summer, Jacob will study mechanical engineering at the University of Iowa.
