Shepard rallies for state-bound cheerleaders

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, Shepard High School staff members, parents, and students -- athletes primarily -- surprised the cheerleaders just as they were about to board their bus for the IHSA state finals.

The Shepard cheerleaders have enjoyed a season full of achievement. Champions of the Andrew High School Invitational and runners-up in the South Suburban Conference, they placed fourth at their IHSA sectional last weekend to qualify for the state final.

It's always a big deal at Shepard when a team advanced to state.

The Shepard cheerleaders always show tremendous support for others; Athletic Director Curry Gallagher thought other teams would like to do the same for them.

Smiles, laughter, and a few tears flowed as the team walked down the athletic hallway toward their bus . . .
