Stagg Basketball raises funds for Heroin Epidemic Relief Organization
Each year the team raises funds through Hoops for Hope

On Thursday night, the Stagg High School Boys Basketball Team presented a $1,800 check to The Heroin Epidemic Relief Organization (HERO) as they fight against the heroin epidemic in America.
Each year the team raises funds through its Hoops for Hope free throw competition where individuals sponsor players for each free throw made out of 100 attempts. The team has raised funds for the American Cancer Society, Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and the Jason Foundation a nonprofit focused on preventing teen suicide. This year, the team selected The HERO Foundation as the recipient of the money raised.
The HERO Foundation’s mission is to stop the growing heroin epidemic that has rapidly swept across nation through programs and support of strategic pieces of legislation while providing comfort and support to those who have lost a loved one to heroin or are currently helping a loved one who is struggling with this terrible disease.

HERO was founded in 2010 by John Roberts and Brian Kirk after their two sons, Billy and Matt, were tragically taken from them while battling heroin addiction. HERO offers grief support and family support services; promotes and participates drug education and drug prevention programs; provides steadfast support for improvements in drug treatment; and staunchly advocates new drug policies.
Donations and support from across the nation have allowed HERO to fight the heroin epidemic on several fronts. HERO makes sure that families within these communities are made aware of the growing heroin epidemic. By raising awareness and educating people about what to look for and getting parents, teachers, and authorities all working in concert to keep young people from picking up this deadly habit we can stop the epidemic and build strong bonds between parents, children, and the communities.

“As a community, we are getting the word out there as well, and it starts by bringing awareness to our staff, parents, community, and above all else students,” said Coach John Daniels. “I am incredibly proud of the example our players present in making a difference for their community and country.”
