Stagg High School's Head Basketball Coach Resigns After 14 Years
Stagg basketball coach cites "personal reasons" for leaving, school officials say.
PALOS HILLS, IL -- Stagg High School’s head basketball coach is quitting after 14 years of leading the Chargers. School officials said that John Daniels submitted his resignation earlier this week.
Daniels cited “personal reasons” for his departure, according to a written statement issued by Stagg High School. He lead the high school to a 310-240 record during his 14-season tenure and two regional championships. Daniels will stay on as a math teacher.
Stagg athletic director Terry Treasure called Daniels a “coach’s coach.

“John is a quality person …” Treasure said. “He had influenced the lives of many young men that have come through Stagg. The experiences he helped create for our athletes, students, alumni, staff and the entire community will be hard to duplicate. He should be proud of the program he has created.”
Principal Eric Olsen said that accepting a resignation Daniels’ resignation was difficult.

“[He’s] had such a positive influence on student athletes and coaching staff,” Olsen said. “John has been a true example of Charger Pride and has instilled the values of character and service into the program.”
Stagg will begin its search for a replacement as soon as possible.
