Stagg HS biology students learn from Big Run Wolf Ranch

Lesson supports ecology unit

Stagg High School biology and animal behavior students recently had the unique opportunity to see a presentation by Big Run Wolf Ranch (http://www.bigrunwolfranch.org/).

Biology students learned more about and interacted with the animals that have been the center of
investigations and research in the ecology unit.

Specifically, the presentation supplemented the Ecosystem Interaction unit’s investigation and analysis of the Yellowstone National Park ecosystem both before and after the reintroduction of wolves in 1995.

Students have discussed the factors that affected this ecosystem, its biodiversity and the wolf population. They also discussed the impact of human interaction on the Yellowstone ecosystem, both when the wolves were removed from the area and when they were reintroduced to the park.
