Senior captain Baraa Alkhani defeated students from Palatine and Fremd High School

The Amos Alonzo Stagg High School Debate Team competed at the Illinois High School Association State Debate Championships at University of Illinois, Springfield on March 15-17. The team earned the 1st Place Lincoln-Douglas Debate trophy. The winner is determined through a sweepstakes process, and we had the tournament-winning debater, senior captain Baraa Alkhani. Baraa defeated students from Palatine and Fremd High School in the elimination rounds to earn the championship. In addition, Baraa earned All-State honors in his event.
The topic of debate for the weekend was RESOLVED: The United States ought to provide a universal basic income. Scholastic debaters must argue both sides of the resolution during the course of the competition.
