“The district has been very supportive of the music programs at all three schools for many years,” said Chris Betz, director of choral activities at Stagg. “The craft shows help supplement our budgets to provide even higher quality experiences for our students.”
Robert Mecozzi, Stagg’s director of bands, notes that music is a vital part of life, especially for high school students. “Music provides students a chance to emotionally communicate to themselves and to others, and to express those emotions in an appropriate manner,” he said.
Craft show co-organizer Karen Lencioni named other benefits of students participating in music programs. “Music in schools helps foster social skills, team skills, time management, public speaking, and of course performing skills,” she said. “Students often find a circle of friends they connect with in their music programs they otherwise wouldn't find.”
