Video: How D218 teachers integrate Next Generation Science Standards

Colleagues show how to build NGSS into any subject area.

Last year, publisher McGraw-Hill identified District 218 as one of the nation's best examples of a school system integrating Next Generation Science Standards into its curriculum.

In fact, McGraw-Hill sent a film crew to the district last spring to interview teachers and Curriculum Director Dr. Carol Baker. McGraw-Hill then featured the videos at the National Science Teachers Association convention in Nashville.

During the district Teacher Fair a few weeks ago, faculty members Eric Girard, Kristine Jackiw, and Meghan Sisk showed colleagues how to incorporate the principles of NGSS into social studies, math, English, and other subject areas.

Essentially, NGSS seeks to teach students how to think and act like scientists and engineers: Inspire curiosity, investigate, collect data, think critically, ask questions, draw conclusions, and support arguments.
