Video: Shepard celebrates Special Olympics
See, hear students cheer their peers on an unforgettable day.
The day before the Illinois Special Olympics regional basketball tournament, Shepard hosted a game between the two teams sponsored by District 218.
Our students and staff created an incredible atmosphere for these athletes.
“Competing in the Special Olympics allows our students to gain an extra-curricular experience. They are able to socialize with their peers from all schools in the district,” said Shepard teacher Allison Hlavach.

“Special Olympics also gives staff and volunteers the opportunity to have fun with the students outside of the classroom environment. Our students enjoy seeing their teachers and friends in a social setting. They also are able to exercise in a fun and engaging way! Overall, it is a great way for our students to feel a part of their community!” she added.
As much as any other event, this game -- how it looked and sounded -- reflected the spirit of the Shepard community. Thank you everyone.
