Video: Shepard students learn earning potential of Toyota/Lexus technicians

Remarkable salary growth, job security in just a couple of years after high school

James Wyatt wasted little time telling Shepard High School students what everyone wants to know: After completing the Toyota Technical Education Network classes (also, this doubles as an associate’s degree, same as you would earn at MVCC), graduates start on a salary scale with the following general guidelines:

Certified technician/age 20 - $30,000 to $45,000
Expert technician/age 22 - $40,000 to $50,000
Master technician/age 25 - $80,000 to $90,000
Master/diagnostics - $90,000 to $130,000

Wyatt teaches at Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville, the closest TTEN program to Chicago. When enrolled in TTEN, students alternate between taking classes at Jefferson and working paid internships at Toyota or Lexus dealerships near their homes.
