Worth Man Pleads Guilty To Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material

WORTH, IL — A Worth man is heading to prison and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after pleading guilty last month to one count of possession of child sexual abuse material. Juan Carlos Alvarado-Platero, 44, was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In August 2021, acting on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, investigators from the Cook County Special Victims Unit were able to trace images of child sexual abuse material to an account and app linked to Alvarado-Piatero, sheriff’s investigators said.

As the result of a search warrant issued to the social media app, investigators identified eight images and seven videos depicting CSAM which they said had been shared from Alvarado-Platero’s account.

Alvarado-Platero was arrested Aug. 10, 2021 at his residence in the 6700 block of West 113th Street, Worth. Sheriff’s police said Alvarado-Platero admitted to using his cellphone to view, download and share sexual images of children as young as 5-years-old.

The Worth man was subsequently indicted on 14 counts of possession of child pornography depicting children under 13, and 15 counts of Child Pornography/possession/moving depiction.

Alvarado-Platero pleaded guilty last month. He was admitted to the Taylorville Correctional Center on Nov. 7. His projected parole date is May 24, 2024.
