Home Robbed With Elderly Couple Inside

Burglars fled when a 73-year-old resident discovered them.

PARK RIDGE, IL — Two men broke into the home of an elderly Park Ridge couple while they were home in the middle of the day, stealing jewelry and escaping, according to a report received by police Feb. 15.

The burglary took place on the 1700 block of South Fairview Avenue around 12:45 p.m., according to the report.

A 73-year-old man heard a sound and went upstairs from a lower level to check it out, finding the two burglars in his house, police told the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.

Another resident, a 67-year-old woman, said the burglars got into a tan SUV getaway car.

The thieves wore hoodies and covered their faces, and they were described as being in their late teens or early 20's, Park Ridge's Deputy Police Chief told the Herald-Advocate.

Police said the burglars entered the house by breaking a rear door.

Another nearby home, on the 1400 block of South Fairview, was burglarized in the middle of the prior day.
