Letter to the Editor

Jim O'Donnell, former candidate for state senate, knows what is wrong in Springfield and make a good case for voting for Mel Thillens.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

There are many policies where Republicans and Democrats disagree, but in the area surrounding O’Hare airport, all residents are united in their opposition to at least two issues - any legislation creating a higher property tax burden, and any further expansion of O’Hare Airport that creates additional noise and air pollution.

State Representative Marty Moylan not only differs from residents on these issues, he actively works against us.

Moylan took an active role in promoting the expansion of O’Hare Airport, going so far as to appear before the Federal Aviation Agency to declare that “… I am for the project (and) the majority of the citizens of Des Plaines are for the project …” despite an army of local residents protesting against expansion at the time.

Last month, Moylan sponsored a new state law (HB 2694) which is opposed by almost every Mayor of every village adjacent to O’Hare because it lowers property values, raises taxes for 80% of homeowners and most importantly, does not address the issue of noise. Moylan has taken the side of the City of Chicago’s airport lobbyists over the people he is sworn to protect.

Mel Thillens has a common sense platform. Instead of the voluntary fly-quite program now in place, he is asking for a mandatory fly-quiet where penalties are imposed to the airlines when the rules are broken. Working on the ascent and decent for flights, as well as reviewing banking procedures. Mel Thillens is promoting real solutions which benefit the families most impacted by O’Hare expansion.

I know which policy I prefer and I am certain that I will be voting for Mel Thillens.
