Park Ridge Police Blotter: Meat Theft Foiled, Stroller Burned and More

Two Charged In Meat Theft

A 17-year-old juvenile and Matthew King, 18, of Park Ridge, were charged with retail theft after an incident at Dominick's, 1900 S. Cumberland Ave., July 20 at 7:33 p.m. The pair were observed loading a shopping cart with meat products and other items. The two then left the store without paying, police said.

Attempted Burglary

Someone attempted to burglarize a home in the 1000 block of N. Cumberland Avenue between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. July 25. The door knob and door frame of the home was damaged but entry was not gained.

A women's Diamond bicycle was taken from an open garage of a home in the 1400 block of S. Fairview Avenue sometime between May 28 and June 9.

An unlocked garage was entered and three bicycles removed from a home in the 300 block of W. Cuttriss Street sometime between noon July 23 and 9 a.m. July 24. Police recovered two of the bicycles, but a third bike described as a purple Trek still is missing.

Suspicious Fire

Someone set an unattended, empty, baby stroller on fire July 21 at 11:42 p.m. in the 800 block of Talcott Road at South Park.

Car Damaged

A 2004 Cadillac Deville was hit by an object while hading south in the 200 block of Summit Street on July 22 at 9:52 p.m. The vehicle was dented and scratched on the passenger side.

Vandalism

A marker was used to write on a wall in the entrance of an apartment building in the 300 block of W. Touhy Avenue.

Criminal Tresspass

A person living in the 800 block of Tomawadee Drive returnned home to find the front door and service door to the garage open. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

Traffic Charges

Arturo Lopez, 41, of Park Ridge, was charged with no valid driver's license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to give information after an accident after an incident in the 800 block of Devon Avenue on July 21 at 7:33 a.m.

Sergio Estrada, 23, of Chicago was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no valid driver's license and no valid insurance after an incident at the intersection of Dee Road and Crescent Avenue on July 28 at 12:03 a.m.

DUI

Anthony J. Matassa, 24, of Park Ridge, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis, criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia and not valid insurance after an incident in the 1600 block of Park Ridge Pointe on July 25 at 1:39 p.m.

Thefts

An ID card reader was removed from the front door of a bank in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue. The incident occurred between 1:30 p.m. July 21 and 8:15 a.m. July 23.

An iPad was taken from an office at Lutheran General Hospital sometime between 7 p.m. July 15 and 1:30 a.m. July 16.

A person driving a gray Jeep pumped 11 gallons of gasoline into the vehicle and left without paying on July 24 at 9:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of W. Touhy Avenue.
